New Measures for Working Practice
The Sound Hounds are committed to a safe return to work for all TV and Film professionals. In accordance with this aim we have put in place some measures to ensure a safe working environment for our sound recordists and all staff on set. We aim to offer specific considerations for audio recording while including BECTU’s own recommendations for measures to be taken during the easing of the lockdown.
Buddy system – We shall be implementing a buddy booking system during the easing of the lockdown. When booking a Sound Hounds Sound Recordist you will not just be booking one recordist, there will be a buddy system in place so that if for any reason your booked sound recordist is unable to make the shoot due to COVID-19, there will be alternative Sound Hounds team member ready on stand-by to step-in and make sure your production goes ahead unhindered.
Ability to provide PPE – Should you require it, we can provide our own Personal PPE, including gloves, masks and protective casing for Equipment.
Post Shoot UV Sterilisation - Each member of The Sound Hounds will be equipped with a UV Sterilisation tool for use on all kit at the end of a shoot. All Kit will be sterilised on arrival, and sterilised before leaving location or the studio.
Radio mic usage considerations – Once a sterilised radio mic is placed on a contributor, barring any mic adjustments, we can remotely access and reprogram the mic from a safe 2 metre distance, this should alleviate any close contact with the contributor for the majority of a shoot day. Sterilized batteries are to be used and gloves will be worn when these are to be changed. We shall also recommend exposing Lavelier microphones to limit the need to adjust them through a shoot day. We shall also try and use a boom mic whenever possible, and this too will be sterilised after every shoot day.
Coronavirus Crisis
We at The Sound Hounds are very disappointed at the UK Government’s response to the plight of freelancers working in the TV industry who have been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. In our industry the current rules create a very narrow available path to receiving assistance. Worst of all there are many production companies who insist that employment of runners, researchers, APs etc are on short term PAYE contracts which last as little as a few weeks, let alone months. It means those who are paid the least are also those who have the least protection, forced to act as if they’re freelancers but without any of the benefits. Now in this time of crisis and despite paying their taxes, their only recourse is universal credit.
We are already aware of the anxiety this is causing and also have little faith that this will be rectified, therefore we pledge to donate a minimum of £800 per month to The Film and TV hardship fund, until the current restrictions have been lifted.
If you yourself can spare anything at all, please can you can donate here https://filmtvcharity.org.uk/support-our-work/donate/
Audio solutions during lockdown
The Isovox 2 is our latest tool to keep recording whilst in lockdown. It’s a portable sound isolation booth that’s ideal for professional voiceover audio in a home environment. It can be delivered to your door, set up and ready to go. Check out this video to see it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMq_3PnxQWs&feature=youtu.be
If you’d prefer we can arrange a remote recording session from our studio to anywhere in the country. For more details call Pete on +44 7956 867430 or email on pete@thesoundhounds.co.uk
